Day Care Facilities for adults with learning difficulties

Based in Chesterfield, Freedom Centre Ltd offers a home-from-home environment for anyone over the age of 18 years, with learning and physical disabilities.

Our dedicated team have extensive knowledge within the care sector, so understand what is required to provide the support and care needed to fill our service users’ days with fun and stimulation.

Highly trained staff

The support at the Freedom Centre is provided by fully qualified and experienced staff.

All staff is trained to a minimum of NVQ level 2, but the majority are trained to NVQ level 3.

Mandatory training is updated on a yearly or 3 yearly basis depending on the subject.

Mandatory courses include:

  • SAFEGUARDING
  • FIRE
  • MOVING & HANDLING
  • FIRST AID
  • FOOD SAFETY
  • MEDICATION
  • HEALTH & SAFETY
  • We also provide training in;

  • EPILEPSY
  • AUTISM
  • DIABETES
  • Our staffing ratios are 1 -4 for people who can cope well in a group, or 1 -1 for people who always need more intense support.

    Or a combination of the two for those who only need more intense support when they go out.

    Opening times & Daily activities

    Opening times
    Monday – Friday
    9.30 am – 3.30 pm

    We are open for 50 weeks per year, closing for one week at Christmas and for bank holidays. Dates are sent out at the beginning of each year.

    You are free to choose which days you would like to attend providing we have vacancies on that day.

    How our days are set
    The day starts with everyone having a drink and a chat then each group will go and do whichever activity they are doing on that day.

    For those who are only out for the morning, they will get back to the centre around 12 o’clock in time for lunch.

    ​Afternoon activities will start around 1 pm then everyone meets back at the centre around 3.15 pm.

    ​Anyone who goes out all day will be provided with a packed lunch.

    Arts & Crafts

    As well as enhancing creativity, arts and crafts serve as an outlet for expression for service users. In day-to-day activities, hand-eye coordination plays a vital role, and it can be improved by doing simple tasks like-

  • Painting
  • Model making
  • Sewing
  • Drawing
  • Cutting and gluing
  • Presentation
  • Card-making
  • Floristry
  • Out & About

    At Freedom Centre Ltd we are lucky to be situated close to Chesterfield town centre. It is within walking distance to Queens Park leisure centre and the bowling alley.

    This allows us to spend as much time as possible out in the community.

    With structured and personalised activities, our service users can spend as much or as little time out in the community.

    Our service users enjoy many outdoor activities including-

  • Picnics
  • Lunches at pubs and restaurants
  • Wildlife and zoo outings
  • Using public transport
  • Visits to the beach
